Prescription Policy — MedXPlus
MedXPlus is a licensed retail pharmacy committed to public health, patient safety, and full compliance with Indian pharmaceutical regulations. We strictly adhere to the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, and relevant pharmacy practice standards.
This Prescription Policy outlines the criteria required for dispensing scheduled drugs, how our registered pharmacists verify medical orders, and the guidelines for ordering medications safely.
1. Requirement of a Valid Prescription
- Prescription Medications (Schedule H, H1 & X): By law, all medicines classified under Schedule H and Schedule H1 (such as antibiotics, anti-hypertensives, cardiac drugs, diabetes medicines, psychiatric formulations, and hormonal preparations) cannot be dispensed without a valid, authentic medical prescription.
- Over-the-Counter (OTC) Products: A prescription is not required for daily health supplements, standard multivitamins, personal hygiene products, cosmetics, or non-scheduled OTC items.
2. Mandatory Elements of a Valid Prescription
To be accepted and processed by our pharmacy team, your uploaded or shared prescription must be clearly legible and contain the following details:
- Doctor’s Information: Full name, qualification/degree, clinic or hospital name, official contact details, and state medical council or NMC Medical Registration Number.
- Patient Details: Full name, age/date of birth, gender, and date of consultation.
- Medication Details: Precise name of the drug, active salt/composition, dosage form (e.g., tablet, syrup, injection), strength (e.g., 500mg, 10mg), frequency, and duration of the course.
- Doctor’s Signature & Stamp: A handwritten or authorized digital signature and clinic stamp from the prescribing physician.
- Validity Period:
- Acute condition prescriptions are generally valid for fulfillment up to 6 months from the date of issue.
- Chronic ailment prescriptions (such as maintenance medications for diabetes, thyroid, or hypertension) can be refilled up to the duration explicitly indicated by the prescribing doctor.
3. Pharmacist Verification Process
Every prescription submitted to MedXPlus—whether shared via WhatsApp (+91 95218 69696) or uploaded through our website—goes through a formal clinical review before packaging:
- Document Authentication: A qualified, licensed pharmacist verifies the registration details of the doctor, validity date, and clarity of the prescription.
- Clinical Check: The pharmacist cross-references drug dosage, potential contraindications, and duration to ensure safe dispensing.
- Customer Confirmation: If any line item is ambiguous, out of stock, or requires generic substitution, our pharmacist directly contacts the customer to explain options before dispatch.
- Physical Verification (If Applicable): For select restricted medications, our delivery personnel may request to inspect the physical doctor’s slip upon doorstep handover.
4. Prohibited & Restricted Substances
MedXPlus does not dispense or deliver the following through digital orders:
- Schedule X & Habit-Forming Drugs: High-risk narcotics, sedatives, hypnotics, and psychotropic substances subject to stringent double-signature physical ledger tracking.
- Banned Medications: Any drug prohibited for manufacture or sale by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) or State Drug Control authorities.
- Expired or Altered Prescriptions: Prescriptions showing signs of digital tampering, altered dates, modified quantities, or overwriting without the doctor’s counter-signature.
5. Generic Substitutions
If a prescribed brand is unavailable or if a customer requests a cost-effective alternative:
- Our licensed pharmacist will propose an identical therapeutic substitute containing the exact same active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), strength, and dosage form.
- We will only dispatch a substitute brand after receiving explicit verbal or written approval from the customer.
6. Refill & Monthly Chronic Care Orders
- Patients requiring recurring monthly refills for maintenance conditions (hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, asthma) must provide a valid initial prescription showing ongoing treatment duration.
- We recommend sharing an updated doctor’s review slip at least once every 6 to 12 months to ensure your regimen remains aligned with your physician’s current evaluation.
